What is Spirituality?
This is a hard term to describe, as every culture, religion and person is unique and expresses spirituality in different ways. All people have something to offer. Youth Spirituality is unique also. Vinnies acknowledge all of these; we seek to develop unity in this diversity.
The Spiritual mission of the Society is to continue the mission of Jesus Christ. The Society sees in the life of Jesus; compassion, simplicity, integrity, gentleness and concern for all people, in everyday situations especially the outcast, rejected, or deprived in our community.
Spirituality is also about relationships and the Society understands that we as young people are searching and learning about faith and spirituality and that we use our Vinnies experience as a way to develop and deepen the relationships with each other and the people whom we serve.
The spirituality of the Society transcends age and culture. This Christian spirituality takes inspiration from the Vinnies founder, Frederic Ozanam and is expressed in both prayer and action.
In our prayer we reflect on the spirit and example of Frederic Ozanam and St Vincent de Paul. We reflect our solidarity with the poor, the marginalised and those without power and our unique roles of volunteers working within the Society. Our work is also our prayer.
In our actions we use our gifts to help empower those who experience injustice and those deprived of material goods. The Society as a Vincentian Family is a way of life that speaks of mutual respect and appreciation amongst all who share personal gifts for the benefit of the poor. We as young members share these also and enjoy the challenge of living the Gospel not by preaching but via service, advocacy, and love.
